Engineered Mechanical Protection For Live Utilities

Heavy Walled Split Casing

New railroad, highway, or other civil construction typically requires that existing utilities be exposed and encased without loss of service. Ironhed FMP meets this challenge by offering heavy-walled split casing in sizes up to 72” I.D. and wall thicknesses up to 1”. Formed from ASTM A36 steel, Ironhed can be ordered in sizes and walls that meet Cooper E80 (rail) and H20 (roadway) loading standards or existing pipeline occupancy specifications.

Heavy wall split casing covering sewer pipe

Typical exposure of existing live sewer or water service line prior to new road or rail construction. Split steel casing is assembled using 5/10’ half sections assembled in staggered-seam configuration.

Once bolted up, this assembly becomes a strong—unitized casing. No coupling is required between sections for straight runs. 42” I.D. is the largest size that is produced as 2-piece casing.

Sizes larger than 42” I.D. are shipped as quarter sections and assembled at the site. The assembled halves are then installed as typical 2-piece casing.
